We Got It

Immature

the take

In hindsight, this might be the beginning of Immature... maturing a bit (which is ironic to consider). Immature's third project "We Got It" is one where this feels a bit more cohesive in terms of the vibes presented here. The trio wanted to let the world know that the (then) teen heartthrobs were steady growing up, and the material presented here reflects as such. The opener title track sets the tone with the confidence the trio has already possessed, as witnessed slightly on their last effort "Playtyme Is Over". The songwriting on here is kind of a bit too surface-level for me, but then again these are teenage singers who were just trying to appeal to the masses. Thank goodness the vocals by the trio exceed the lyrical material they were presented with and added depth and life to the tracks, plus it doesn't hurt that the production is pretty consistent throughout. Aside from "I Can't Stop the Rain", which is one song I vividly remember always hearing due to my sister playing it on repeat constantly, there really aren't any major standouts on here. With that in mind, though, that's not a bad thing because as you listen, you know you're not going to hear any subpar effort from Immature at all on here. Looking back, my favorite songs have changed a lot over the years. Some of my personal favorites in the past ("Pager", "Just a Little Bit") aren't among the best to me anymore, though still enjoyable to listen to. Maturity is a crazy thing because for the longest time, I wasn't a fan of "Feel the Funk" at first, but now my opinion on the album's closer has significantly changed for the best and is now in the top half for me. Still great after all this time. Nostalgia for the win for me.
