the take
THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE. Going into this, I already have this conceived notion that I already won't think this will be perfect for me due to myself leaning more toward their earlier work (2018 and before). I still enjoyed "THY KINGDOM COME", though, so in my mind, I'm hoping "THY WILL BE DONE" will be damn near the same as that, right? Well, as soon as I started playing the opener "Leviticus", I instantly got the same vibes that are reminiscent of an older banger "Exodus". The album starts off with an aggressive moshpit track that I never expected to be fire, but it set the tone for my experience. After "2009 Reggie Bush" and "Angel Grove" (with honorable mention "BLOODSWEAT"), in my mind I was hoping for all ten tracks to have this hardcore rap sound that propelled them to where they are at today. By the time I reach "Whatever Floats Your Boat Will Definitely Sink My Ship", that's when I realized that $uicideboy$ have to appease to their newer fans as well, and this track might be the most blatantly obvious one. While not bad and I wouldn't mind hearing it live, I can't lie and act like it's good when in actuality it's just okay at best. Not only that, but I've been a fan of some of their melodic songs, but the ones on here are a notch below what I've heard before. Truthfully, though, while "MSY", "Old Addicts, New Habits", and "Frenzy" are good tracks, they help make up the least interesting and memorable part of the album for me, as I lowkey struggled to enjoy the album's middle portion. The album returns true to form with "Hypernormalisation" and closer "Fuck Ups", and holy fuck, these might be the best one-two punch to finish a $uicideboy$ album in a while. The production, the vibe, the intensity: everything is peak here for me. Not a bad Christmas present, if I say so myself.
