Cabrini Green

Ransom

the take

Ransom is a name I've been seeing for a few years, but have yet to give a listen to yet. Some of his features on other songs, like his appearance on Conway the Machine's "Stab Out" were pretty exceptional, so I eventually became curious to see what he has to offer on a solo project of his. "Cabrini Green Project" is only eight tracks long (seven on streaming services, R.I.P. "Solidus"), so it's a relatively quick listen at only about 24 minutes. Even with the short runtime, Ransom absolutely killed it with his bars on here. His rhymes are so perfectly put together to where it made me visualize every word he was saying in my mind. And the backing production on here is just immaculate to me. While doing a bit of research on this, I discovered that both MadeinTYO and Nicholas Craven had a hand in crafting a few songs on here. Nicholas Craven's beats have always been fire to me, and MadeinTYO's venture into the more soulful/drumless style (either rapping or production, in this case the latter) pays off here with "Give Enough". Each beat works well in Ransom's favor. Nothing too crazy, just straight to the point so you can focus on the lyricists at hand, whether it's Ransom himself or either Boldy James and J. Arrr. "Cabrini Green Project" is already amazing, but a part of me has a strange feeling that this will grow on me even more.
