CHVRCHES
the take
This album is really more ironic, now that I listened to this album for the first time in about 5 years. Even with the upbeat Synthpop production, the lyrics sung by (in most tracks) frontwoman Lauren Mayberry are dark and depressing. It doesn't take away from the fact that this album is the perfect (then-)modern take of the Synthpop sound, though. Not including "The Mother We Share", the group's most known single from this project, the original 13 tracks make up a good body of work, with "Gun" and "Lungs" being my clear-cut favorites. As for the bonus tracks... while I enjoyed those, I'm slightly indifferent toward them, to be honest. I will add that it's nice getting a gift of sorts from CHVRCHES detailing their start of this album, as well as their live audios of both album songs and other tracks not on here.
