Kinda Famous

KenTheMan

the take

When it comes to KenTheMan, I've known of her music since around 2022 during my discovery of then-recent music by female rappers not named Megan Thee Stallion or City Girls (Flo Milli, Tay Money, etc...). I liked what I heard from KenTheMan, but I'd be lying if I said I'm tapped in to her music. That said, I was surprised she dropped in 2025, but at the same time I was still curious about how "Kinda Famous" would sound to me. I'm not gonna lie, a part of me thought this would be kinda meh to me, but it's actually good. Granted, KenTheMan doesn't do anything all too different than her female contemporaries in terms of lyrical ability, but she does give each track the required energy to make them work. The one track that stuck out to me the most is "Home", as it doesn't sound like the other aggressive songs on here. "Home" is different in not only the soulful sample and the calm demeanor of the track, but KenTheMan is writing from a vulnerable state of mind about wanting someone to be with her and only for her. It still has its hood elements, but it's cool to see KenTheMan reveal some human qualities in the middle of a project within the female rap niche. Another track that showcases Ken's versatility a bit is "Do It Like Me", where she shows off her singing vocals. She's not a Beyoncé, but I respect the fact that KenTheMan is willing to explore new avenues with her sound, even if it's in bits by pieces. Though there are somewhat forgettable tracks sprinkled throughout ("Try Me Pt. 2" and "Gimme More", to name a few), I was actually impressed at how consistent "Kinda Famous" is as a whole. It's not groundbreaking or innovative, but it's still a fun listen for me.
