I truly believe that this era was bridge to maturity and still holds up as being one of her most creative to date. I think more people now have a new gould appreciation for it and I really agree with those that have re-found their love for it.”

“i never expected this to be the ariana project that aged the worst for me— but when i hear so many of these songs, it feels impossible to ignore how fucking sad she was making them. this album was something of a musical lifeboat for her, something to throw herself into and try to avoid drowning. it also released at a time that happened to be challenging and melancholy for myself. i was depressed and traumatized and dissociative, and so was she, and that provided a lifeline of catharsis. but it also intrinsically linked her pain with mine, and made these songs permanently a hard listen lol. i think a lot of the choices on this project that i dislike might be a product of her dependence on a specific close group of collaborators and sort of “fuck it nothing matters” state of mind. but i think none of the brilliance and power of this music could have happened any other way. the tommy brown trap drums stick out these days, but who else would she have felt comfortable enough with to create such vulnerable and personal songs, something at that point in her career she had only just started doing. i have so many complicated emotions about this album that the general public seems to recognize primarily as her career peak and ascent to super stardom. i feel so protective and conflicted. but ultimately, i think her grace, her skill, and her passion shine on this album in a way few others could achieve on their best days. fave songs: imagine, 7 rings, in my head least fave: ghostin (fuck you scooter braun)”

eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead

“the following review only focuses on the six bonus tracks that were included in the deluxe edition, with the overall score reflecting as such. a part of me enjoyed the original edition of Ariana Grande's "eternal sunshine" album, though i feel it wasn't her best. so for me to discover she released a deluxe, i was curious. would these additional tracks be on the same level as the original, or would they be either better or worse? turns out, slightly better. these extra songs are great additions to the album. on the one hand, they don't really add much of anything new to what's already been released before, but they do help establish Ariana's pathway to navigate through heartbreak and growth. the messaging actually got across better on here, which kind of help me understand why "eternal sunshine" is what it is. lyrically and musically, this just further shows how Ariana is a great emotional storyteller. "past life" is a track i loved instantly on first listen, and is the clear highlight for me. no matter however you slice it, though, there's no denying that the "brighter days ahead" deluxe is a satisfying conclusion to her "eternal sunshine" era.”

“This changed my life omg you had to be there. Out of all her pre-2020 albums, is it crazy to say this one aged the best? Maybe it’s cause her and Victoria Monet work amazing together, but the vulnerability and/or attitude in the lyrics combined with the trap pop sound allows a song for pretty much anyone to enjoy. Also I feel like in general Ari does so well with making albums cohesive, I’ve never listened to a track and thought, hm this doesn’t fit the other songs.”
