Not Here Not Gone
“If I had a nickel for every time an all-women doomgaze band released a no-skip record I’d put on repeat for weeks... I’d have two nickels.Which isn’t a lot, but it’s actually fairly normal it happened twice. Given my passion for Faetooth over the last few years, I was expecting to enjoy this. And I did. “Not Here Not Gone” is an album for contemplation (gaze, if you will), but it doesn’t forget the heavy side of doom, nor does it ever let go of the emotionally devastating touch. “Involuntary Haze” droning laments are followed by “Bodies” menacing atmosphere. The haunting synth on “Mourning After” paves the way for a devastating “Poppyfields” that closes off the album with a touching moment of violin. The album constantly juggle in a duality, as the title suggest. It’s never really clear if the next element will be dreamy or harrowing. And because the world is small and I love making connections, did you know the producer is Sonny DiPerri, the same guy who worked on two of Emma Ruth Rundle’s records ?”
