Something About Airplanes
“It’s interesting to go back into an older catalog this album from 1998 certainly sounds like a freshman album as a lot of the songs are all over the place in terms of style and general ideas are a little bit spread out. not the worst thing in the world that’s definitely impression that I get. it is reminiscent of neutral milk hotel. On the other end of influence, I would be willing to put some money down to say the Pine Grove definitely took a listen to this album. It is this moment that I am grateful that bands are not always judged by the first thing the first thing they release. I am here in 2026 listening to this album from 1998 where I stand it’s hard not to acknowledge what they will accomplish, but not until 15 years later, which is crazy and I’m trying to write that the context of “oh you have to be there” but I’m not and I wasn’t. this is an honest album that really you could have used a lot more production, but I bet the budget wasn’t here and that’s why this album has a whole lot of heart, but it’s not that this album that slightly under whelming. It’s that this album is merely the base camp which death can will begin their climb int alternative royalty. It is cool to see the humble beginnings.”

Transatlanticism
“Transatlanticism is a patient, aching meditation on distance. Ben Gibbard’s lyrics are the clear centrepiece: intimate, restrained, and devastating in their simplicity. He writes about love not as a grand gesture, but as something fragile, stretched thin across space. Musically, the band leans into repetition and slow builds, crafting songs that feel like they’re constantly reaching toward something just out of grasp. The title track is the obvious high point, a masterclass in escalation, while songs like Passenger Seat strip things down to their emotional core. The interplay between guitars, rhythm section, and atmosphere is deliberate and immersive. As a concept, the album is remarkably cohesive. Its emotional clarity and commitment to its central idea make Transatlanticism one of the defining indie records of its era. Fav Track Transatlanticism”

“significantly more optimistic than other DCFC albums, why is why I think it’s not as well-received by a lot of DCFC fans. love how these songs blend into each other. you are a tourist is phenomenal.”
