KING OF THE MISCHIEVOUS SOUTH
“What can I say that already hasn't been said? It's just a great project all around. There are definitely some songs that don't appeal to me specifically, and it's definitely not Denzels best project, but its solid fun and the feature list is absolutely stacked. I really love how all these songs really stand on their own and deliver their own vibe while still being cohesive, and many of these songs are still in my rotation till this day, like black flag and still in the paint, just a solid project all around.”

KING OF THE MISCHIEVOUS SOUTH
“The five extra songs added to Denzel Curry's latest mixtape-turned-album don't really add much to the original project itself. That's not to say that they aren't worthwhile additions, though. In a sense, the extra songs kind of represent a further evolved sound that combines both the MMESYF-era and KOTMS-era of Denzel Curry. My favorite bonus track is obviously "STILL IN THE PAINT", but that's because it sampled one of my favorite trap songs of all-time, Waka Flocka Flame's "Hard in da Paint". Overall, though, I'm content with the new material on here, plus it's always good to have more tracks from the original standard edition grow on me from when I first (finally) listened to this back in September 2024 to now (March 2025 as of this review).”

“One of the best rap albums I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. Not only does Denzel kill it - but this project had a feature list as stacked as the 2017 Warriors. __________________ Best song: BLACK FLAG FREESTYLE, COLE PIMP”

Strictly 4 The Scythe
“As soon as "LIT EFFECT" was released, I was hype for this new project that Denzel Curry announced. In my mind, the collective's rappers are ones I've listened to before and enjoyed their solo work (or in the case of Key Nyata via features, but he hasn't missed to me yet). It's still amazing, but I feel like I was kind of let down in a sense. The first half is clearly better and more consistent than the second, as the project's energetic tracks are front-loaded to kick the project off. "THE SCYTHE" to "MUTT THAT BIH" is a prime example of respecting the Memphis rap sound, which I'm a huge fan of. That said, it could get a bit repetitive, which is why we have the second half of the album. I'll admit I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of the second half on my first listen. I kind of felt blindsided due to the album's vibe shifted suddenly. I ran back "HOOPTY" to "UP" a few more times in the following days, and I've grown to like them a bit more. It may not have as many standout moments, but it finally began to dawn on me that each member of The Scythe just made this to have fun. As such, they were able to create what they want and be content with what they put out. The Scythe's "Strictly 4 the Scythe" is a project that I enjoy enough (with its many highs), but I can't help but think I got my hopes up a bit.”

Strictly 4 The Scythe
“Put a TiaCorine verse on each track and it’s a solid 9/10 for me. Ever since Hot One on Denzel’s last album, I’ve been waiting for them to work together again. And S4TS proves I was right to expect good stuff out of their collaboration. Now why is it not a 9/10 ? Aside from Lit Effect, most choruses are too repetitive and take a too important part of the song. They’re far from bad but considering The Scythe is a supergroup of rappers, I expected them to leave more spotlight time to their verses... The good sides : The ‘Lit Effect’ chorus by Bktherula goes hard, she just glides over a good old trap beat and it’s the most hype thing I’ve heard in a while. ‘Phony’ and ‘Mutt That Bih’ are pretty great too, although the tiredness of the repetitive choruses start to show a little. TiaCorine’s verse on ‘The Scythe’ is probably the catchiest of all, while ‘Tan’ comes to the rescue of a second half of mixtape that isn’t as efficient as its counterpart.”
