Why obsess over some compression issues, some harsh frequencies, just for you to have to mix for 6 more hours? No one really cares, anyway. And maybe that's the way it should have been all along. While he already had a knack for merging contemporary music like hip-hop & pop R&B with auteur-like theatricality and cinematics, this time he managed to do more with less. His melodic pop rap roots remain, but you may find yourself with a track like "ALL I'LL SAY”, which blends muddy, minimalist four on the floor production against an energetic vintage Kanye West type soul sample, erupting into roaring MIKE DEAN inspired electric guitars and lush orchestration by the end.
