Something About Airplanes

Death Cab for Cutie

the take

It’s interesting to go back into an older catalog this album from 1998 certainly sounds like a freshman album as a lot of the songs are all over the place in terms of style and general ideas are a little bit spread out. not the worst thing in the world that’s definitely impression that I get. it is reminiscent of neutral milk hotel. On the other end of influence, I would be willing to put some money down to say the Pine Grove definitely took a listen to this album. It is this moment that I am grateful that bands are not always judged by the first thing the first thing they release. I am here in 2026 listening to this album from 1998 where I stand it’s hard not to acknowledge what they will accomplish, but not until 15 years later, which is crazy and I’m trying to write that the context of “oh you have to be there” but I’m not and I wasn’t. this is an honest album that really you could have used a lot more production, but I bet the budget wasn’t here and that’s why this album has a whole lot of heart, but it’s not that this album that slightly under whelming. It’s that this album is merely the base camp which death can will begin their climb int alternative royalty. It is cool to see the humble beginnings.
