The Collection

Devilish Trio

the take

Officially, "THE COLLECTION" is a compilation of the DEVILISH TRIO's single releases from late 2016 to mid-2017. Also officially, this is a better body of work than their preceding self-titled debut. Because this tape is a compilation of sorts, Tenngage's production didn't heavily rely on the nostalgic horrorcore sound this time around like it did on the previous album. If anything, it seems like the sound was actually pushed forward to be innovative in terms of being fresh for the time. I think it might be time to admit that I'm more of a fan of the slower-tempo songs, such as "FAR BEYOND DRIVEN" and "TRINITY". Honestly, the slower songs benefit both Baker and Hydra as well. Lyrically speaking, they speak more about their life and their points of view on the world more directly without incorporating too much of the typical niche horrorcore subjects this time around. I will admit that the flow scheme of both rappers hasn't changed at all, but given the beat selection, it's sometimes okay to overlook. An improvement from their self-titled debut, that's for sure.
